BLACKPINK, the most popular K-pop girl group in the world, has just revealed how they got invited to headline Coachella 2023, one of the biggest music festivals in the world. In a new episode of their YouTube show “Born Pink Memories”, the group shared a behind-the-scenes video of their Born Pink show in Paris, where they met Paul Tollet, the co-founder of Coachella.
Tollet surprised the group by personally delivering the invitation to headline Coachella 2023, which marked the 2nd time that BLACKPINK performed at the festival. They first made history in 2019 as the first K-pop group to perform at Coachella.
In the video, Tollet praised BLACKPINK for their talent and charisma, saying “We want you to headline Coachella. You are just bigger and better than anyone. It’s so logical.” The members were visibly excited and touched by his words, as they expressed their gratitude and disbelief. Lisa said it was a dream come true and then they shared a group hug.
BLACKPINK consists of four members: Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. They debuted in 2016 under YG Entertainment and have since become one of the most successful and influential groups in the music industry. They have broken numerous records and achieved global recognition with their catchy songs, powerful choreographies, and unique style. Some of their most popular songs include “How You Like That”, “Kill This Love”, “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”, and “Lovesick Girls”.
Fans of BLACKPINK, also known as Blinks, were thrilled to see their idols’ reaction to the Coachella invitation. BLACKPINK last released group music in August 2022, when they debuted the pre-release single of their second studio album Born Pink, titled “Pink Venom”. The group is rumored to make a comeback in October this year with a new mini album. They are also confirmed to be releasing a new song “The Girls” as the OST for their mobile phone game BPTG later this year.
