YG Entertainment Denies Rumors Regarding BLACKPINK’s Jennie Joining Marvel

The K-pop industry is no stranger to rumors and speculations, especially when it comes to its biggest stars. Recently, one of the most popular idols in the world, BLACKPINK’s Jennie, has been at the center of a rumor that claimed she was joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as a superhero.

The rumor started when media outlets reported on June 9 that Jennie had been cast in a Marvel series called ‘Team Agents of Atlas’, which would feature an Asian superhero team led by Jimmy Woo. The report claimed that Jennie would play Luna Snow (Seol-hee), a K-pop singer who gained ice powers after being exposed to an experimental energy source. Luna Snow first appeared in the mobile game ‘Marvel Super War’ in 2020 and was voiced by former f(x) member Luna.

The rumor gained traction when fans noticed that some MCU actors who are of Asian descent, such as Fala Chen (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Claudia Kim (Avengers: Age of Ultron), and Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), had followed Jennie on Instagram. Some fans speculated that this was a sign that Jennie was indeed joining the MCU and that they were welcoming her to the franchise.

However, on June 12, YG Entertainment, Jennie’s agency, issued a statement denying the rumor and clarifying that Jennie had never received an offer to appear in any Marvel series.

“Jennie has never received an offer to appear in the Marvel series ‘Team Agents of Atlas’,” YG Entertainment said.

Meanwhile, Jennie has recently made her Hollywood debut by appearing in a cameo role in HBO’s new drama ‘The Idol’, which premiered on June 4. The drama follows the life and love story of a famous pop singer in Los Angeles and is created by Sam Levinson, who also made ‘Euphoria’. The cast includes Lily-Rose Depp, The Weeknd, Troye Sivan, and BLACKPINK’s Jennie.
